Can I increase the size of my system in the future?
This depends on your roof space and the size of the inverter. If you have sufficient roof space and additional capacity in the inverter you could increase the size of your system. Or you could add a second solar system to your roof. Please note: At this time, the solar Feed-in Tariffs in each state have limits on the system size which to they apply. Increasing the size of an existing solar power system could affect your eligibility for a Feed-in Tariff. Please call us for further information.
Do solar panels work during blackout?
No, unfortunately not. Because solar panels produce DC electricity and most buildings run on AC electricity, the inverter is required to change the DC power into usable power. This cannot happen during a blackout. Also, due to safety reasons, all inverters in Australia are designed to shut down and stop sending electricity to the grid during power outages. How do I check the performance of my solar system?
You can now check the performance of your solar system via a smartphone app. Contact us for more details. Alternatively, Foton can perform regular solar maintenance to ensure it’s performing at optimal levels.
How do I find out how much I pay for electricity?
This information will be provided on the bill you receive from your energy provider. Your electricity bills are guaranteed to decrease after the installation of solar panels. However, by how much will depend on different factors, including your system size, the orientation of your roof on which the panels are installed, your house location, shade from trees, your day and night household electricity consumption, plus the agreed cost of import and feed-in tariff costs with your electricity retailer and etc. Rest assured, Foton will always recommend the best design for optimum performance for your building.
How long does an average installation take?
Most of our solar installations take place in a single day. This is scheduled in advance once the type of solar system has been agreed with the client.
How long is the wait between booking and installation?
Usually, there is only one week gap between booking and installation. Sometimes we would agree on an alternative date and/or longer timeline due to unpredictable circumstances like bad weather, for example. Feel free to give us a call to discuss dates and scheduling your solar installation.
How much roof space is required?
Because we are situated in the Southern hemisphere, North-facing roofs are ideal to collect the maximum amount of photons from the sun. After that, East and West-facing roofs are the next best but approximately 20% less than North. Typical domestic solar panels measure 175cm by 90cm on average and we would try to install panels on any usable space of your roof. Each roof will have its own best case scenario, so contact us today for a no-obligation consultation.
What are the financial benefits of solar energy?
The financial benefits of solar energy can be quite considerable. However, the amount you could save entirely depends on the size of your solar system, how much direct sunlight your panels receive, how much energy you use and a range of other factors. Solar power is a long-term investment and is guaranteed to save you money on your energy bills in the long-run.
What is net metering?
Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they add to the grid. What this means is that any excess electricity your solar system makes, which isn’t used by you, is fed into the grid. You only pay for the electricity you use, minus the excess electricity your solar panels generated.
